Islamic banking assets consistently record double-digit annual growth rate since year 2000 and now represent 25% of the Malaysian banking assets. An estimated 50 percent of the customer base of Islamic banks in Malaysia comprise of non-Muslims.Sukuk (Islamic securities) commands a 57% market share – between 2006 and 2014, foreign issuers have issued Sukuk amounting to a estimated RM28 billion in various currencies – US dollar, Yen, Renminbi and Singapore dollar – in the Malaysian marketplace.

Dr. Aida Othman is a Partner at Zaid Ibrahim & Co. (a member of ZICO Law) and Director of ZICO Shariah. She specializes in Islamic banking and finance, Islamic capital market instruments and takaful products and operations. She also advises on Shariah compliance and governance, including on the legal and regulatory framework. Apart from being a member of the Shariah Advisory Committee of Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Berhad, she has also published and co-authored several Islamic Finance related publication including  » An Introduction to Islamic & Conventional Corporate Finance » published by Sweet & Maxwell, 2012.

Encik Madzlan Bin Mohamad Hussain is a Partner and Head of the firm’s Islamic Financial Services and advises matters relating to Islamic financial services, as well as prudential and regulatory framework. His principal engagements include advising financial institutions in Malaysia on the legal and regulatory compliances for their Islamic finance documentation, structuring and designing Shariah-compliant financial products and more. He is also well-acquainted with the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) guiding principles and current developments in relation to the global Islamic financial services industry. In 2016 Euromoney’s Expert Guides ranked him as an international expert under the ‘Best of the Best’ and ‘Islamic Finance’ categories.
